Tom Wood filled his first sketchbook when he was 11 years old and 44 years later he still writes, records and develops his ideas in a book. This continuous archive of exploration has led to a wide and diverse body of work in which notions are explored through a broad range of media.
His earlier work appeared to reflect shifting ideas about identity, self and place, often large scale and ambiguous with rich textures they were exhibited widely and were highly regarded. His present work looks outwards at the natural world and celebrates the obvious, the disregarded and the commonplace. Amongst other things he has painted chickens, geese, grass and weeds His themes now include waterfowl surrounded by light, mud and water although simultaneously he continues to explore images of peafowl.
